Salary: £47,241 + (dependent on experience)

About the Role
As a Senior/Principal Engineer in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC/LEV) within the Site Specialist Engineering (SSE) team, your responsibilities will include leading the technical definition of mechanical design requirements for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) and/or LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) site developments. You will collaborate with end users and project teams.
You will also review mechanical design proposals and specifications for new facility developments and the refurbishment of existing installations, ensuring compliance with current legislation, regulations, and site standards.
Core Duties
- Provide guidance and technical recommendations to the wider business for HVAC/LEV services
- Conduct visual assessments of on-site equipment and offer technical guidance
- Coordinate with key stakeholders including Engineering Authorities, Occupational Hygienists, and DSEAR engineers to assess operations, ensuring that LEV systems are safe, compliant, and legal
- Prepare technical reports and documentation to support new HVAC and LEV installations
- Develop and maintain site standards for HVAC and LEV systems
- Support and mentor junior engineers

Essential Skills & Requirements
- A proven background in the design, installation, commissioning, or maintenance of HVAC and/or LEV systems
- Understanding of ventilation and cooling/heating design principles
- Experience in developing or interpreting design proposals and technical documentation for HVAC and/or LEV systems
- Familiarity with relevant HVAC/LEV standards and legislation
- A degree-level education, preferably in Building Services Engineering or a closely related discipline
Team Overview
Joining the Site Specialist Engineering (SSE) team, a multi-disciplinary group featuring expertise in Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil/Structural disciplines. The SSE team defines site engineering standards for equipment, systems, and facilities, working collaboratively with the broader Facilities team at Barrow-in-Furness. You’ll provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in multiple disciplines, including HVAC & LEV.
