Senior / Principal Transport Planner - Bedford / Cambridge
I'm currently working with a well-established, multidisciplinary transport planning and engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join its growing Transport Planning team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner to take the next step in their career, with real influence over project delivery, team development, and client engagement. The role offers exposure to a wide range of development planning projects, with the opportunity to work across both the Bedford and Cambridge offices.

The Role
As a Senior / Principal Transport Planner, you will play a key role in delivering and managing transport planning projects across a variety of sectors, including residential, commercial and strategic development schemes.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Preparing a range of transport planning technical reports, including:
- Access Appraisals
- Transport Statements
- Transport Assessments
- Travel Plans
- Active Travel Audits
- Undertaking junction capacity modelling and supporting transport assessments.
- Reviewing CAD-based design work produced by others, including swept path analysis and access layouts.
- Managing projects from inception through to completion, with support from senior colleagues where required.
- Supporting financial management of projects, including fee proposals and invoicing.
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members.
- Liaising with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Representing the business at meetings, public consultations and stakeholder engagements.
- Undertaking site visits and supporting planning-related discussions.
- Managing your own workload effectively with a high level of autonomy.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience in transport planning within a consultancy environment.
- Experience working on development-led projects across residential, commercial and/or strategic sites.
- Strong understanding of the UK planning system and its interface with transport assessments.
- Experience with junction and/or strategic traffic modelling software.
- Good knowledge of stakeholder engagement and consultation processes.
- Strong technical report writing skills.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff (for Senior/Principal level).
- A proactive, commercially aware and client-focused approach.
