Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Senior / Principal Transport Planner - Bedford / Cambridge

I'm currently working with a well-established, multidisciplinary transport planning and engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join its growing Transport Planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner to take the next step in their career, with real influence over project delivery, team development, and client engagement. The role offers exposure to a wide range of development planning projects, with the opportunity to work across both the Bedford and Cambridge offices.

You'll be joining a highly regarded consultancy that places a strong emphasis on employee wellbeing, professional development, and creating a genuinely supportive and collaborative working environment.

The Role

As a Senior / Principal Transport Planner, you will play a key role in delivering and managing transport planning projects across a variety of sectors, including residential, commercial and strategic development schemes.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Preparing a range of transport planning technical reports, including:
    • Access Appraisals
    • Transport Statements
    • Transport Assessments
    • Travel Plans
    • Active Travel Audits
  • Undertaking junction capacity modelling and supporting transport assessments.
  • Reviewing CAD-based design work produced by others, including swept path analysis and access layouts.
  • Managing projects from inception through to completion, with support from senior colleagues where required.
  • Supporting financial management of projects, including fee proposals and invoicing.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members.
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Representing the business at meetings, public consultations and stakeholder engagements.
  • Undertaking site visits and supporting planning-related discussions.
  • Managing your own workload effectively with a high level of autonomy.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
