Dex

Dex is an AI recruiter agent that helps you run your job search. Tell Dex your stack, seniority, and what you want to build. We will manage your applications and surface other opportunities that are a fit.

The Role

This company builds the global tax automation platform for some of the world's largest digital businesses. They solve a genuinely hard problem: automating sales tax, VAT, GST, and e-invoicing compliance across complex, global operations. Backed by leading VCs, they're reportedly crossing $100M ARR and growing fast.

This is a greenfield opportunity. As the first dedicated Data Engineer, you'll bootstrap the entire internal data platform from scratch. You'll own the design, tool selection, and foundational patterns for data modeling, cataloging, governance, and quality. This isn't a role where you inherit a mature stack and a backlog of tickets; it's where you define the data strategy, build the platform, and prove its value.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Work

  • Design and implement the foundational data platform, including architecture, tooling, and best practices for modeling, governance, and quality.
  • Partner with Infrastructure to ensure robust cloud, networking, and security for all data workloads.
  • Translate complex business requirements from Product, Finance, and Operations into reliable, self-serve data products.
  • Connect fragmented data sources across internal systems into a unified, queryable layer.
  • Identify and deliver the first high-impact data use case to demonstrate the platform's value and drive adoption.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or backend roles with significant data focus. Fluent in SQL and Python or Scala.
  • Hands-on experience building end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines with a modern data stack (e.g., BigQuery/Snowflake, dbt, Airbyte/Fivetran).
  • Production experience with workflow orchestration tools and a major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • You've bootstrapped a data platform or function from scratch, defining strategy and execution in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into clear data products and communicate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
