About the Role
Reporting to the Manager – Web Experience Optimization, the SEO/AEO Specialist reviews our websites to ensure they perform across all primary search engines and AI platforms.
They conduct technical audits to address issues with crawlability, indexability, and speed, ensuring our sites remain competitive—ready for both traditional bots and emerging AI crawlers.
Within the Manager’s strategy, the Specialist delivers:
- Data-driven keyword research and content reviews to identify trends and fill knowledge gaps.
- E-E-A-T, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Entity Optimization to boost brand rankings and AI citations.
- Schema markup to structure data for trustworthiness in platforms like Bing and ChatGPT.
Working with Product, Design, and MarTech teams, they drive scalable improvements to maintain site health and brand growth. Success involves:
- Attracting the right audiences through search.
- Expanding market share in traditional and AI-driven search.
- Ensuring seamless usability for both users and bots.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Technical Site Health & Engineering
- Audit and optimize backend infrastructure (e.g., JavaScript, CSS, HTML, sitemaps, robots.txt,
hreflang, canonical tags). - Resolve crawling, indexing, rendering, and performance issues.
- Manage Structured Data (JSON-LD, schema).
- Collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize MarTech backlog items.
Content & Answer Optimization (AEO)
- Conduct periodic content audits.
- Implement NLP, Entity Optimization, Topic Clustering, and E-E-A-T principles.
- Develop optimization guides.
- Track AI citations.
- Optimize for conversational intent and semantic search.
- Implement internal linking strategies to strengthen topic clusters, improve crawlability, and align with search engines/AI models.

Analytics, Measurement & Reporting
- Track and report SEO/AEO KPIs with data-driven insights.
- Build custom dashboards to monitor growth and AI citations in partnership with Analytics.
- Compare pre- and post-optimization results in terms of traffic and visibility gains.
- Identify performance gaps and propose experiment ideas for the backlog.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Brand, Design/UX, Content, MarTech, and CRO specialists to align strategies and reporting.
- Ensure WCAG compliance.
- Lead cross-departmental knowledge-sharing initiatives on SEO/AEO.
- Work with CRO Specialists to maintain SEO integrity in experiments.
Enablement & SEO/AEO-Driven Culture
- Create SEO/AEO playbooks.
- Coach content authors on intent-driven, SEO-ready content creation.
- Deliver training sessions to enhance SEO/AEO awareness across marketing.
AI Search Research & Innovation
- Conduct market, competitor, and trend research.
- Monitor emerging AI search platforms and track LLM behavior shifts.
- Test AI optimization (AEO) tactics.
- Share findings and recommendations to inform the roadmap.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Digital Marketing, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in SEO, with early exposure to AEO for high-authority sites.
- Proven ability to execution technical and content optimizations that deliver measurable traffic and visibility improvements.
- Experience applying E-E-A-T to build brand credibility.
- Strong knowledge of Core Web Vitals, Structured Data (JSON-LD), and bot/AI model behavior (e.g., crawling/indexing).
- Practical skills in HTML/JavaScript/CSS for front-end troubleshooting and engineering communication.
- Familiarity with NLP, Entity Mapping, and Topic Clustering for domain authority.
- Proficiency in keyword/prompt research, intent mapping, and metadata optimization for “people-first” search.
- Experience with Adobe Analytics and GA4 for data evaluation.
- Hands-on expertise with Screaming Frog, PageSpeed Insights, Google Search Console, and Chrome DevTools for technical audits.
- Experience using SEMrush, Conductor, and Enterprise CMS environments.
- A data-backed approach to meeting ROI targets.
- Ability to create technical playbooks and run internal workshops.
- Comfort with emerging AI trends and evolving best practices.
- Strong collaboration skills with Product, CRO, Design/UX, Analytics, Content, and MarTech teams.
- Direct reporting to a Manager while contributing strategic insights and executing priorities.
- Fluent in English.

Compensation & Benefits
Wiley offers:
- Competitive base pay: £31,500 – £43,033 (UK salary range, may vary by location).
