Role Overview

Thorn SDS is a niche Managed Service Provider, who are committed to enabling technology organisations and professionals to thrive within the Space, Defence and Security sectors.

We're looking for a motivated Server Engineer to join our Hereford team, supporting and maintaining our server estate in a secure, mission-critical environment.

Whether you're an experienced infrastructure professional looking for your next challenge or have a solid technical foundation and are ready to develop your career, this is an opportunity to work with enterprise technologies alongside a knowledgeable and supportive team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring our server and Pure Storage environments remain secure, resilient, and highly available, while contributing to infrastructure projects, service improvements, and lifecycle management activities.

On-Call Support

Following your induction and training, you'll participate in a paid, planned on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support for critical infrastructure. Appropriate support and handover will be provided to ensure you're fully prepared before joining the rota.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Installing, configuring and maintaining physical and virtual server infrastructure.
  • Supporting Windows Server environments and core infrastructure services.
  • Managing enterprise storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions, including Pure Storage FlashArray platforms.
  • Administering storage replication, snapshots, SAN/Fibre Channel connectivity, capacity planning and performance monitoring.
  • Managing storage hardware, firmware and software lifecycle, including obsolescence planning and service reporting.
  • Supporting the integration of storage with VMware virtualisation and enterprise backup solutions.
  • Applying security updates, resolving infrastructure incidents and supporting technology refresh projects.
  • Producing technical documentation and collaborating with Infrastructure, Networks and Cyber Security teams.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across Infrastructure, Networks and Cyber Security.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
