Server Engineer - Contract - London

Day Rate: up to £650 per day Inside IR35.
Start: Immediate

You must be SC Cleared to be suitable for this role.

We are looking for an experienced Windows Server Engineer to join one of our customers within the Finance sector. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing our enterprise Microsoft Windows infrastructure, ensuring the delivery of secure, reliable, and high-performing services. Working as part of a collaborative infrastructure team, you will contribute to business-critical projects, support day-to-day operations, and help drive continuous improvement across the IT environment.

For this Server Engineer role, you must be required to commit to being onsite 2-3 days per week in central London.

Server Engineer Duties

  • Manage, maintain, and support enterprise Microsoft Windows Server environments to ensure secure and reliable services.
  • Build, configure, deploy, and decommission physical and virtual servers as required.
  • Administer core Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Perform server patching, upgrades, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation in line with best practice.
  • Support VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms and contribute to infrastructure resilience.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administration and improve operational efficiency.
  • Investigate and resolve infrastructure incidents, perform root cause analysis, and support infrastructure projects, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, follow ITIL service management processes, and participate in an on-call rota and planned out-of-hours maintenance when required.

Server Engineer Required Experience & Skills

  • Active SC Clearance
  • Demonstrable experience administering enterprise Microsoft Windows Server environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Hands-on experience supporting VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server patch management, operating system lifecycle management, and security best practices.
  • Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining enterprise infrastructure, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, MECM/SCCM, Intune, Infrastructure as Code tools, or Linux administration would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills, with experience working within an ITIL-based service management environment
