Role Description: Service and Breakdown Engineer

Location: Leicester (full-time, on-site role) This position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing faults on industrial process chillers and air conditioning systems, including emergency breakdowns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance on installed systems
  • Complete service visits as per contract requirements
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Liaise with customers on-site, providing clear updates on work progress
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all work carried out
  • Report recurring issues and collaborate with mechanical pipe fitters and electricians to deliver effective solutions
  • Respond promptly to emergency call-outs

Requirements

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Strong technical skills in air conditioning, refrigeration, and industrial process cooling systems, including fault finding and repair
  • Experience with installation, commissioning, and servicing of chillers and associated mechanical/electrical components
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices for on-site work
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals
  • Valid UK driving licence (with willingness to travel locally to customer sites)

Soft Skills & Work Style:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Experience with service contracts and maintenance scheduling is beneficial

Formal Qualifications:

  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in:
    • Refrigeration
    • Air conditioning
    • Mechanical engineering
    • Electrical engineering
  • Familiarity with basic IT tools for reporting, scheduling, and documentation
