Permanent Service Centre Supervisor (SLEP Centre Supervisor) Location: Beacon Barracks, Stafford, Staffordshire, West Midlands
About the Role
At Amey Defence, we’re recruiting for a Permanent Service Centre Supervisor to play a key role in Military Integrated Training Equipment Resource (MITER). This position will see you supervising, developing and optimising an engineering team in Stafford, ensuring flawless delivery of the Service Life Extension Programme (SLEP) for Defence equipment.
Based onsite at Beacon Barracks, you’ll be part of a vibrant, inclusive community focused on maintaining high-quality, effective assets while adhering to safety, legislative, and commercial best practices.
Core Responsibilities

Reporting to the SLEP Centre Manager, oversee tasks including:
- Planning and supervising internal SLEP assets to meet MITER business objectives
- Guiding an engineering team via training, mentorship, and performance support
- Managing cost-effective rectification solutions for repairs beyond fair wear and tear
- Ensuring contracts and wrap up KPIs are adhered to, including timeframes, WIP minimisation, and high service standards
- Collaborating with SMEs, users, and stakeholders to deliver consistent customer service and resolve issues
- Carrying out quality checks to uphold standards for repairs and maintenance

Delegating workshop/engineering tasks while balancing 75% practical activities and 25% office-based duties.

Acting as a principal liaison between internal teams and third-party contractors, plus external stakeholders (e.g., MOD).

Advocating continuous improvement in safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
What You Will Do Daily
- Team Leadership:
- Identify skill gaps, performance risks, and development opportunities.
- Boost morale and team performance through targeted coaching.
- Compliance and Finance:
- Submit accurate quotes and approvals for non-standard repairs to deadlines.
- Maintain budget discipline and KPI adherence.
- Customer Engagement:
- Host regular consultations with MOD and users to align service delivery.
- Safety & Quality:
- Actively comply with all health/safety, fraud, and ethical policies.
- Audit equipment standards pre- and post-intervention.
- Cross-Division Support:
- Collaborate on corporate goals and open dialogue between engineering, finance, and logistics.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Apply Rapid Improvement Work methodologies while adhering to company ethics/processes.

Experience and Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in material handling equipment (MHE), plant, or commercial HGV mechanics (including hands-on maintenance).
- Track record in supervisory roles, preferably within a service environment, showcasing strong team management skills.
- Strong record in customers service, prioritising clients’ needs and clarity of cross-departmental comms.
- Commitment to health & safety, evident through frontline adherence.
- Commercial mindset with cost-conscious decision-making via:
- Financial management and process optimisation.
- Certifications: recognised by employers; preferable qualifications include:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in mechanical engineering.
