About the Role

An exciting permanent role as a Service Centre Supervisor based onsite at Beacon Barracks, Staffordshire.

The position supports the Service Life Extension Programme (SLEP), supervising an engineering team while ensuring: consistent quality, high productivity, safety compliance, and process adherence.

This role is crucial in delivering MOU, MoD, and Defence maintenance project solutions across MOD sites in Defence Support Estate (DSE) operations.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting direct to the SLEP Centre Manager and Equipment Sustainability and Refurbishment Manager, key responsibilities include:

Operational Management

  • Supervise and mentor a team of engineers, balancing workshop duties (75%) and office duties (25%).
  • Coordinate tasks to ensure team performance meets KPIs and contractual timeframes.
  • Ensure resource efficiency, minimising Work in Progress (WIP) while prioritising consistent SLEP asset output:
    • Weekdays (Monday–Friday, Monday 06:00–Saturday 23:59)
    • Overtime pay structure (time and a half for overnight shifts, double time on weekends, and double time plus statutory pay for Bank Holidays)
  • Supervise all rectification issues, customer complaints, and Performance Improvement Opportunities (PIOs) across service centres.

Customer & Compliance Focus

  • Conduct pre-service and post-service quality checks, ensuring repairs meet customer standards (MOD/Defence priorities).
  • Collaborate with SMEs and stakeholders to contextualise and resolve issues.
  • Maintain high-quality customer relations with weekly stakeholder meetings via Amey MOD Access Portal.
  • Complete all quotes and approvals for non-fair-wear-and-tear repairs within sla timeline standards.

Training, Safety & Development

  • Identify engineer training requirements, performance gaps, and continuous improvement action plans.
  • Lead by example, ensuring full adherence to all company/safety policies (Health & Safety, Van Policy, Expenses, IT Usage, Contractual Provisions).
  • Champion MITER team culture, cultivating a communicative, inclusive environment.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to drive personal and team development.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Cost-effective solutions for operational successes involving third-party contractors, ensuring value within contract scope and financial transparency.
  • On-demand support to service centres via Galway customer API.
  • Safe management of HF Beacon solutions and continued safety audits within IT and EHM’s H&S protocols.
  • Undertake relevant checks as directed by the leadership team.
  • Represents the Company’s Mandatory Values in all duties.

What You Will Bring

It’s the job for someone who…

✔ Has previous construction/plant, MHE (Mobile Plant Equipment), or HGV (HGV appeal process) hands-on experience (or relevant maintenance). ✔ Possesses a current full UK/EEA or British overseas driving licence. ✔ Is HGV Class C (or Above) (Preferred). ✔ Demonstrated people supervision & development in a safety-led environment, with a proven track record of resolving issues with stakeholders. ✔ Can think and act with a solution-based approach to drive insistence on quality processes. ✔ Understands H&S obligations and applies this within a supply-chain/legal roles context. ✔ Has professional proof of commercial and financial awareness in asset recovery. ✔ Holds a mechanical qualification: City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3, or equivalent. ✔ Previous experience in applying supervision in a Service Centre environment.

Compulsory

  • Mandatory MoD/UTJ security clearance validity for the duration of the role (Whole Life Employment – You must be able to secure/maintain a closed world clearance for implementation within 6 months).
