My client is an established Housing Association based in the Northwest. They’re looking to hire an experienced Rents and Service Charge Accountant to join the team.
The successful Rents and Service Charge Accountant will be responsible for setting and reviewing rents and service charges, ensuring customers and colleagues receive clear, accurate, and timely information on how service costs are recovered across the group.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure rent and service charge setting is accurate, compliant with legislation, regulatory standards, contracts, and internal policies.
- Acting as the in-house expert, the Rent and Service Charge Accountant will draw on regulatory knowledge, best practice, and an understanding of residents’ housing needs to ensure the approach is compliant and transparent.
- Provide expert advice and support to internal teams, helping to ensure rent and service charge processes run smoothly, efficiently, and in line with regulatory standards and relevant legislation.
- Maximise service charge income by accurately capturing and allocating costs in line with legislation, policy, and agreements.
- Reconcile actual and estimated service charge costs, producing year-end accounts, and informing future budgets.
- Maintain and improve systems, data, and processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and a single source of truth.
- Support colleagues and residents with queries and communications, while staying up to date with legislation and best practice.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE
- ACCA/CIMA part-qualified or qualified by experience.
- Strong knowledge of social housing rent and service charge principles, legislation, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in the social housing or charity sector.
- Excellent IT and systems skills, including strong to advanced Excel.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills, with the ability to prioritise, work under pressure, and support change effectively.
