AS A SERVICE DESIGNER YOU WILL

  • Support our clients through the end-to-end service design process to design and develop innovative products and services from ideation and inception through to solution build and testing.
  • Create service design artefacts including user journeys, personas, service blueprints, mapping and proof of concepts
  • Apply GDS standards and service design principles across both public and private sector clients
  • Identify and address accessibility and inclusion considerations in the development of services
  • Work effectively within agile, cross-functional teams while owning delivery service design artefacts and collaborating with other UCD disciplines
  • Communicate insights and design outputs clearly with strong visuals
  • Support facilitation of workshops, ideation sessions or similar
  • Identify risks and escalate appropriately within your team
  • Advocate for user-centred design within teams and to wider stakeholders
  • Ability to adopt a curious and inquisitive mindset – with a passion for asking ‘why’

Your Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience designing services and products.
  • Proven experience working across a service design process, autonomously with minimal support
  • Experience working with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards, applying GDS design principles or working to similar design standards
  • Ability to create service design artefacts and outputs, such as current and future-state user journeys, personas, service concepts, service blueprints and other artefacts
  • Ability to identify potential accessibility barriers for complex user groups
  • Experience facilitating workshops, design sprints, ideation sessions or similar
  • Ability to visualize complex services in an easy-to-understand format for varying audiences
  • Experience breaking down complex problems in a fast-paced environment, with a knack for storytelling
  • Experience of working in an agile (scrum) environment in a cross-functional team including but not limited to user researchers, UX/UI designers, business analysts, product owners, delivery managers and developers
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a tight timeframe with a proactive mindset
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance competing views as part of the design process
  • Aptitude for being an advocate for user-centricity, with the ability to develop and translate user stories and propose design approaches or services to meet these needs and engage in meaningful interactions and relationships with users
  • You will be expected to show examples of work, this does not need to be a formal portfolio or comprehensive story but rather speak to your diverse experience through visual artefacts so that we may understand your process and the type of artefacts you typically output.
  • Be eligible for SC clearance (by being a UK resident for at least 5 years and not having left the country for more than 28 consecutive days during this period)

YOUR ROLE

As a Service Designer, you will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outputs across the end-to-end service design lifecycle, helping clients design and improve user-centred services. You will apply established service design tools and methods while continuing to develop your expertise. You will champion inclusive and accessible design practices, ensuring services meet the needs of diverse user groups.

You will be joining the growing and exciting AI & Digital Factory community who are continually sharing knowledge and expertise. You will bring a curious mindset and a passion for designing and improving digital services and experiences.

Role

As part of your role you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the business and your own personal growth, through activities that form part of the following categories:

  • Business Development – Leading/contributing to proposals, RFPs, bids, proposition development, client pitch contribution, client hosting at events.
  • Internal contribution – Campaign development, internal think-tanks, whitepapers, practice development (operations, recruitment, team events & activities), offering development.
  • Learning & development – Training to support your career development and the skills demand within the company, certifications etc.
