Service Engagement Lead – NHS and Private (Welwyn Garden City)
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) blended role combining service engagement and private patient coordination within our Welwyn Garden City clinic, with regular local travel required.
You will develop strong relationships with local opticians, GPs, referral pathways, and community groups, drive referrals across both NHS and private sectors, and ensure private patients receive a truly personalised, high-quality experience.
Key Responsibilities
Local Engagement and Referral Growth
- Visit and engage with local opticians, drive outpatient and private referrals, and maintain a strong market presence.
- Build and nurture relationships with GPs, RMCs (Referral Management Centres), LOCs (Local Optometrists Committee), community groups, and key stakeholders.
- Ensure meeting of referral targets for the Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) in your designated area.
- Act as the liaison between Joint Venture Partners and the Newmedica Marketing Team, providing insights on local trends and competitors.

Private Patient Coordination
- Support private referral growth, handling entire patient journeys from first contact through to post-treatment follow-up.
- Manage administrative tasks associated with private patient pathways while ensuring a personalised, reassuring experience.
- Be the primary point of contact for all private patient enquiries by phone, providing clear updates and maintaining KPI performance.
Events and Community Engagement
- Organise continuing professional development (CPD) sessions, optical fairs, national seminars, and local community events.
- Promote the choice of Newmedica services within the community, actively enhancing our visibility.
Frontline Patient Care
- Meet and greet patients in person during appointments and treatment days, fostering a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
- Maintain consistency with Newmedica’s standards of compassionate and high-quality patient care.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven healthcare experience, ideally within optics or ophthalmology ranges.
- Familiarity with NHS referral routes and policies (advantageous).
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.

What We Offer
Basic Remuneration
- Salary up to £45,000 p.a. (depending on experience).
- Annual car allowance of £5,000.
- Occasional per diems for business travel expenses.
