Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Electrical Service Engineer - Trainee based at Canary Wharf. This is an entry-level position with hands-on training and development tailored towards becoming a fully-fledged Electrical Service Engineer specialising in fire and security systems.
Job Purpose
Working under supervision, you will support electrical maintenance and service operations whilst undergoing dedicated training and skill development to ensure compliance with company and statutory regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
Core Tasks
- Assist in completing electrical maintenance and service works, including basic repairs and troubleshooting, while ensuring safety and compliance.
- Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and clarify timing for assigned tasks.
- Ensure all equipment and services are maintained safely, adhering to Health & Safety standards.
- Conduct routine inspections and participate in preventative maintenance schedules, accurately logging findings and reports.
- Record and report on inspection work, defects, or remedial tasks clearly and precisely.
- Gradually develop knowledge of statutory regulations, emergency procedures, and safety protocols as part of day-to-day operations.
- Work alongside senior engineers or supervisors to assist with electrical repairs and installations (under supervision).
- Report any defects, risks, or unresolved issues encountered during service visits.

Operational Support
- Carry out assigned tasks as directed and follow structured task sheets as a visual guide.
- Support inventory control for workshop/vehicle stock and ensure materials are managed efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness, condition, and organisation of the workspace and vehicles.
Training & Development
- Actively participate in training programmes and feedback sessions to meet required criteria.
- Understand and apply company policies, safe systems of work, and PPE procedures.
- Raise any safety concerns, deficiencies, or training needs to the Field Line Manager.
- Upskill through shadowing, hands-on experience, and mentorship to begin qualified work once fully trained.
About You
We are looking for candidates with:
Essential Criteria
- Show interests in fire safety systems.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and close attention to detail.
- Commit to learning and upskilling, with a desire for technical growth.
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
- Display good communication skills (written, verbal, and team-based).

Desirable Criteria
- Electrical qualifications (equivalent to Level 2/3, e.g., City & Guilds or NVQ).
- Experience on construction sites or within electrical environments.
- Familiarity with basic fire safety systems principles.
- Working knowledge of Basic DC/AC circuits is a bonus.
