Electrical Service Maintenance Technician – Tesco (Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Banbury, Didcot)
About the Role
As an Electrical Service Maintenance Technician at Tesco across Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Banbury, and Didcot, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our stores remain safe, functional, and welcoming for customers and colleagues.
You’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of systems and equipment, helping to keep operations running smoothly. Your work will directly impact the shopping experience of thousands of customers daily.

Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Confidently interact with external contractors to coordinate repairs seamlessly.
- Work collaboratively with the team to ensure quality service.
- Maintain high energy levels, juggling tasks efficiently.
- Support the management team in keeping stores operational.
- Minimise customer disruption by managing repairs effectively.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Ensuring all Tesco sites are safe and functional for customers and colleagues.
- Following planned work schedules to achieve first-time fix rates, improving efficiency.
- Sharing best practices and knowledge with team members.
- Performing general store and property maintenance.
- Using mobile devices (phones/tablets) to track work progress and updates.
- Representing the Tesco brand by upholding core values: serving customers, communities, and the planet.
- Attending local and national meetings, providing input and feedback.
- Supporting a diverse and inclusive culture.

Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
You’ll need a strong background in maintenance, engineering, or construction, with confidence in using digital tools (e.g., tablets for scheduling and email management).
Operational Skills:
- Completion of a recognised apprenticeship, improver programme, or trade proficiency test (or equivalent trade experience).
- Basic electrical diagnostics (e.g., PCB, microprocessors, HMI-controlled systems).
- Facility with circuit fault-finding and replacement under basic safety protocols.
- Knowledge of EICR remedial works.
- Full driving license (essential).
- Understanding of health and safety practices.
Communication & Technical Requirements:
- Ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
- Office 365 proficiency.
Qualifications Required:
- City & Guilds Level 3 – Electrical (or equivalent).
- Completion of an apprenticeship/improver programme.
- Experience in EICR remedial works.
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications:
- City & Guilds Inspection & Testing.
- ECoPs (Electric Vehicle Chargers Occupational Standards).
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City & Guilds).
- MEWP/IPAF Licence (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms/International Powered Access Federation).
