HVAC Maintenance Technician (Oxford, Abingdon, Banbury)
About the Role
As an HVAC Maintenance Technician at Tesco, specialising in our Oxford, Abingdon, and Banbury areas, you will play a crucial role in maintaining comfortable, safe, and functional environments for customers and colleagues. Your expertise in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems will help ensure our stores are energy-efficient and comply with essential health and safety standards.
You’ll work as part of a skilled maintenance team, responsible for both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across a wide range of HVAC systems. Your tasks will include diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and optimising system performance—all to guarantee a seamless shopping experience for thousands of our customers daily.
This is a mobile, hands-on role that demands strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high service and safety standards. Responsibilities
- Ensure all Tesco sites remain a safe, functional environment for both customers and colleagues.
- Follow planned work schedules to achieve first-time fixes, maximise productivity, and maintain high standards of work quality.
- Deliver consistently high-quality maintenance across the estate, driving year-on-year improvements.
- Apply problem-solving skills and innovation to identify and implement solutions for key and recurring issues.
- Take ownership of tasks—from local execution to completion—while keeping stakeholders informed as needed.
- Utilise mobile devices (phones and tablets) to report best practices, update work statuses, and comply with digital work processes.
- Leverage business systems for:
- Adherence to work order reporting standards
- Supporting asset lifecycle management
- Meeting and exceeding KPIs through effective system usage
- Practical application of skills to drive personal and team success

Requirements
To excel in this role, you must meet the following qualifications and competencies:
Certifications (Mandatory)

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (C&G):
- 6187, 7189, or 6090 (OR equivalent NVQ certification)

Heating & Ventilation (C&G):
- 7188, 6288, or 6188 (OR equivalent NVQ certification)

Plumbing & Heating (C&G):
- 4467, 3345, 6189, 6035 (OR equivalent NVQ certification)
Gas & Appliance Certifications
- F-Gas and ODS Regulations: C&G 2079
- Core Gas Safety: CCN1 (includes COCN1 & CODNCO1)*
- CENWAT (Cold Water Systems)*
- Direct-Fired Heating Appliances: CDGA1 (Nat Gas & LPG)
- Indirect-Fired Heating Appliances: CIGA1
- Overhead Radiant Heating: CORT
- Pipework Testing:
- Low pressure (not exceeding 1m³): TPCP1A
- Higher pressure (up to 7 bar): TPCP1
- Commercial Hot Water Systems: UNVENTED (G3)
- Direct Fired Heating (NG/LPG): Full commission, service, repair, and breakdown authorization (Marked “CDGA1 COMMISSION SERVICE REPAIR & BREAKDOWN OF COMMERCIAL DIRECT FIRED HEATING APPLIANCES & EQUIPMENT”)
- Commercial Pipework Install First Fix: ICPN1
Soft Skills & Certifications
- Full, valid UK driving license (mandatory for mobile work)
- Proficient knowledge of Office 365 for work-related tasks
- Digitally confident: Ability to use mobile devices for workloads, emails, Teams, and business systems
- Strong communication & stakeholder management skills
