Service Manager Multi-Agency Child Protection Team

Service Manager – Multi Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT)

Grade K (£58,973 - £63,545 per annum)

Important Notice: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship and we can only consider applicants with existing right to work in the UK.


Plymouth City Council invites applications for the Service Manager (MACPT) role to support the delivery of Families First Partnership (FFP) reforms in Plymouth. This pivotal position ensures expert leadership within the Front Door, Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT), and wider safeguarding services to provide timely, high-quality, and collaborative practice for child protection.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee 8 Lead Child Protection Practitioners within the MACPT
  • Lead partnership contributions, aligning the team with FFP programme guidance
  • Act as a key decision-maker in disputes or complex cases, including statutory interventions
  • Facilitate a Family-Led approach to safeguarding conferences and improved partnership working with families
  • Oversee the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) service
  • Work with the Head of Service (HoS) to ensure:
    • Robust performance across Child Protection processes
    • Quality assurance of safeguarding and intervention work
  • Develop innovative strategies to advance the MACPT and new Lead Child Protection Practitioner (LCPP) roles, with full implementation planned for March 2027

Essential Requirements

To be considered, candidates must demonstrate:

  • Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England, with at least 3 years of post-qualifying experience
  • Substantial frontline child protection experience and a deep understanding of statutory safeguarding frameworks
  • Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills
  • A commitment to restorative and strength-based practice
  • Emotional resilience to lead in high-pressure, complex environments

Candidates with advanced knowledge of legal and legislative frameworks regarding safeguarding and child protection will be highly regarded.
