Job Summary

In this role, you will perform essential cashier duties, customer service, and front-end support to maintain an efficient, friendly, and professional shopping experience. Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating checkouts with accuracy and ensuring a smooth transaction process for all customers.
  • Stocking, rotating, and maintaining product displays to meet company standards.
  • Enforcing food safety and quality control to ensure freshness and compliance.
  • Assisting customers with transactions, locating products, and resolving inquiries or concerns.
  • Supporting inventory management to prevent waste and stock shortages.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and safety in shopping queues, fuel station areas, and front-end displays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Checkout Operations – Scan, weigh, and key products accurately. Handle cash, cards, coupon validation, EBT, and third-party payments (e.g., WIC, Antiterrorism financing (AML) procedures) with integrity.
  • Product Management – Lead stocking and rotation regimes for dated products and perishables. Monitor inventory to ensure proper restocking and price accuracy.
  • Customer Service – Provide a friendly, helpful, and efficient checkout experience by:
    • Greeting customers warmly.
    • Assisting with product selection and questions.
    • Handling complaints in a timely and professional manner.
    • Promoting a clean and organized front-end area.
  • Inventory & Logistics – Unload and sort deliveries with precision. Track levels of supplies and stock to support replenishment efforts.
  • Fuel Station Support – Conduct gas pump inspections to ensure fuel quality and pricing accuracy.
  • Team & Process Merit – Identify efficiency improvements and report observations to management proactively.
  • Safety & Cleanliness – Maintain a sanitary, safe work environment by adhering to company safety and cleaning protocols.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic understanding of cash register operations (including price adjustments, register reconciliations).
  • Familiarity with workforce management (WFM) scheduling and report requirements.
  • Ability to count and calculate precisely to handle cash transactions and processing obligations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to serve customers of all backgrounds.
  • Strong ability to multitask and thrive in fast-paced environments under time pressure.
  • Manual dexterity to safely handle sharp tools (e.g., knives, box cutters).
  • Facility with operating pallet jacks (electric or manual) to assist in equipment movement, if eligible (age 18+).
  • Knowledge of departmental equipment and associated safety protocols.
  • Commitment to flexible scheduling, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Safety mindset: Ability to detect and remedy potential hazards (e.g., slippery floors, obstacles) with immediate attention, and report unresolved risks to a manager.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • No formal education requirement is listed; however, on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Minimum age restrictions apply:
    • Must be 18 years or older for general roles.
    • ** óperafaoslcràay must be 21 years or older** to operate or drive company vehicles per BGC Business Driver Policy.
  • Certifications (Company-mandated; training usually provided in-house)
    • TABC/LACT/AATC (Alcohol Beverage Commission certification in assigned states).
    • Food Handler certification.
    • Fuel Operator C (if applicable, based on store location).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work Context

  • Primarily conducted in retail grocery store settings.
  • Occasional exposure to:
    • Cold or hot non-weather conditions indoors.
    • Wet/damp conditions while unloading/cleaning.
    • Outdoor elements (e.g., restocking deliveries).
