Checkout Team Leader – Position Overview

Are you a natural leader with a helper’s mentality, or a dedicated customer assistant ready for the next step in your career? We’re looking for energetic and people-focused individuals to step into a Checkout Team Leader role and drive outstanding service for our customers.


About the Role

A Checkout Team Leader at Morrisons plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless checkouts and a positive shopping experience for our customers. You’ll be the energy and motivation at the front of our service teams, acting as a visible and supportive presence across all front-end operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be actively engaged across all service operations, including checkouts, using headsets to swiftly support colleagues and assist customers with efficient, friendly transactions
  • Build and nurture a team culture that prioritises friendly, outstanding, and helpful service to every customer
  • Create a supportive environment where colleagues feel trusted to focus on the customer while also contributing honest feedback and ideas for improvement
  • Foster a performance-driven, achievement-oriented culture where effort and contributions are consistently recognised and rewarded
  • Use dashboards and reports to:
    • Identify operational inefficiencies
    • Develop action plans to resolve issues
    • Optimise operational workflows and customer experience
  • Ensure strict adherence to:
    • Company policies
    • Cash-handling protocols
    • Legal and regulatory obligations
  • Coordinate and manage day-to-day communication in front-end departments, including:
    • Cash systems and operations
    • Trolley and car park services (where applicable)
  • Minimise waste by efficiently managing workflows, prioritising tasks, and ensuring timely put-backs/returns where necessary

Requirements & Qualities

  • A helper at heart: You’re naturally supportive, friendly, and enjoy going above and beyond for your team and customers.
  • Leadership ability: Experience in developing and leading teams, coaching colleagues to build confidence in their roles, and maintaining strong workplace relationships.
  • Operational expertise: Strong knowledge of service department workflows, including cash handling, kiosk use, and customer service processes.
  • Planning & organisational skills: The ability to manage your workload, plus those of your team, while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Strategic thinking: Proactively identifying areas for improvement and making data-backed decisions that enhance service efficiency.
