Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to become a proficient service technician in the automotive industry. Under the guidance of experienced technicians, the apprentice will gain hands-on experience, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of Stellantis products and services.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This role is ideal for individuals passionate about mechanics, problem-solving, and providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior technicians in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing various mechanical and electrical systems
  • Learn to perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, lubrication, and adjustments
  • Participate in equipment installations and upgrades under supervision
  • Develop proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues accurately
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of service requests and projects
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
  • Document service activities, including work performed, parts used, and customer interactions
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills and product knowledge
  • Communicate effectively with customers to address inquiries, explain service procedures, and provide recommendations
  • Assist with inventory management, including tracking parts and supplies used during service operations

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation. Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
  • Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
  • Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
  • Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
  • Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
  • Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
  • Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
  • Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
  • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Training schedule

Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (light vehicle)

Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • The programme lasts for at least 36 months (3 years) and you'll achieve a nationally recognised qualifications
  • All of our apprentices are employed through the dealer network and attend week-long block training at our state-of-the-art training centre in Coventry
  • Block training is complemented by a combination of regular coaching visits from one of our experienced coaches as well as virtual classroom sessions and E-learning modules
  • Your development is supported through your apprenticeship journey, with your learning focused towards achieving a qualification recognised across the motor industry. This will provide the foundation to develop your career, as there are lots of opportunities within our expanding dealer network to progress and move into new roles once you’ve successfully completed the programme
  • Before the Standard is met, all apprentices must hold a certificate that meets the EU’s 2014 F-gas regulation

  • GCSE in:
    • English (Grade 4) essential
    • Maths (Grade 4) essential
