Hussmann’s Technician team maintains, diagnoses, and repairs HVAC/R systems in supermarkets, convenience stores, and cold storage facilities.

Responsibilities
Maintenance & Technical Work
- Performs maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning systems in retail and commercial environments.
- Operates independently with minimal supervision.
- Develops strong customer relations and identifies sales opportunities.
- Performs routine maintenance on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
Technical Expertise
- Diagnoses systems to match customer needs with sales opportunities.
- Manages truck inventory, parts ordering, billing, and responsible waste management.
- Uses handheld devices for required documentation and invoicing.
- Demonstrates proficiency in:
- Joint inspection, PVC installation, glass door adjustment, brazing, and soldering.
- Oil/drainpipe setup, refrigerant conversions, steam welding, and electrical repairs.
- Troubleshooting complex refrigeration systems (rack & conventional layouts).
- Oil management, TEV repair/sizing, pressure regulators, and schematic interpretation.
- Performs refrigerant recovery, compressor diagnostics/repairs, soldering techniques, and leak detection.
- Conducts cold storage startup assessments, fan/airflow testing, and advanced wiring.

Leadership & Collaboration
- Serves as a technical resource for junior technicians.
- Leads HVAC/R PM programs and fosters continuous improvement.
Additional Duties
- Any assigned tasks beyond the scope above.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: High School Diploma / GED
- Preferred: HVAC-R Technical School Degree
Experience
- External Candidates: 7+ years in field experience or 5 years with a technical certification.
- Internal Candidates: 3+ years as a Certified Technician + completion of OJT & Skills Assessment.
Key Competencies
- Valid driver’s license and adherence to fleet safety policies.
- Physical ability: lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedly, climbing, standing for extended periods.
- Strong verbal/written communication, attention to detail, and highly motivated.
- Mechanical aptitude with basic hand/tool proficiency.
- Ability to work nights/weekends as needed.

Technical Certifications Required
- EPA 608 Universal Certification (refrigerant handling.)
- EMS/OEM bypass (system diagnostics tools.)
