Sessional Allotments Assistant - Parks and Green Spaces
Scale 4 £16.13 per hour
Based at Central Depot, Folkestone Road East Ham, Newham E6
About Us
The Parks and Green Spaces Service manages more than 700 allotment plots across the borough. We are committed to reducing waiting times for residents and working closely with committee members and site leads to enhance the overall experience for plot holders.
About the job
We are looking to appoint two Sessional Allotments Assistants to join our Parks and Green Spaces Service. You will be supporting the allotment team in hosting viewings, undertaking inspections, attending engagement and site clear up days.
This is a flexible and physically active role, requiring outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
The post will mainly work at weekends with some weekday working in peak periods.
About you
We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals who:
- Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Have a passion for growing and gardening
- Are proactive and willing to get involved
- Can work independently as well as part of a team
- Have strong communication skills to engage effectively with plot holders and committee members

The London Borough of Newham
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
