Sexual Health Nurse – Riverside Clinic (Royal United Hospital NHS Foundation Trust)

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Sexual Health Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team at The Riverside Clinic, delivering a comprehensive, patient-centred contraceptive and sexual health service.

About the Role

In this position, you will collaboratively work with medical, nursing, and support staff to provide high-quality, confidential care to a diverse patient population. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting service delivery and day-to-day departmental management
  • Supervising staff as required
  • Contributing to the teaching and development of students
  • Actively shaping and enhancing nurse-led services in line with best practice and service needs

Perform the following clinical duties as part of your role:

  • Undertake venepuncture as required
  • Provide triage and first-point support for patients with sexual health concerns
  • Assist with multi-disciplinary HIV care and treatment
    • Collaborate with the HIV team to discuss patient care
    • Manage and screen for sexually acquired infections (SAI)
  • Conduct sexual and contraceptive histories, examinations, and screenings for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients
  • Take detailed sexual.history and manage partner notification
  • Work under SSHA (Society of Sexual Health Advisors) guidelines, including Code of Ethics and safeguarding protocols
  • Perform BASHH (British Association for Sexual Health and HIV) compliant examination and sampling techniques
  • Deliver Patient Group Direction (PGD) therapies
    • Conduct cryotherapy and home wart treatment advice
  • Provide contraceptive advice and make diagnoses (including pregnancy tests and emergency contraception)
    • Discuss safer sex options
    • Issue condom distribution (C Card) and demonstrations where necessary
  • Administer IM injections (immunisations, contraception, or treatments)
  • Assess Fraser competence in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
    • Be aware of safeguarding children protocols (referral pathways and inter-agency collaboration)
