About the Role
Location: The Cumbria SARC
Salary: £43,443.05 (Full-Time Equivalent) – Based on 40 hours per week (equivalent to £20.83 per hour)
Part-Time Availability: 24 hours per week
Working Pattern:
- Monday to Sunday
- 12-hour shifts (between 09:00am and 21:00pm)
- 365 days per year, on a rota basis covering 24/7 operations
Interview Dates: Week commencing 27th July

We are looking for caring and compassionate Registered Nurses (RNs), Midwives, Registered Mental Nurses (RMNs), or Paramedics to join us as Sexual Offence Examiners (SOEs). In this role, you will provide holistic care and support to victims of sexual assault.

Key Responsibilities
As a Sexual Offence Examiner, your role will include the following critical duties:
- Conducting forensic examinations and obtaining forensic exhibits
- Developing forensic strategies according to FFLM (Forensic First Response Manual) guidelines
- Collaborating actively with external Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) and police
- Acting as the first point of contact for victims, police, and social services to discuss referral pathways
- Managing and promoting the self-referral pathway
- Undertaking holistic assessments, including:
- Sexual health
- Mental health
- Safeguarding
- Producing individual management plans
- Ensuring continued service quality improvement
- Adhering to the standards set by the Forensic Science Regulator
- Obtaining consent for both Health and Forensic procedures

Essential Skills & Qualifications
Requirements:
- Qualified Registered Nurse, Midwife, or Paramedic (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a relevant clinical setting
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of:
- Safeguarding (children and adults)
- Confidentiality protocols
- Phlebotomy skills
- Autonomous working
Additional Notes:
- This specific role has a genuine occupational qualification under the Sex Discrimination Act (Section 7(2)b and 7(2)e), and applications are invited from females only.
- Due to the nature of the role, candidates must possess a UK driving licence.
- Access to a vehicle is required, as additional travel between SARCs may be necessary.
- Advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and Level 2 Police vetting will be mandatory.
