Role Summary FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the wastewater industry for an experienced SHEQ Advisor to strengthen their team in the Brighton / Southern region.


SHEQ Advisor Role Overview

You will report directly to the Head of SHEQ, providing expert advice, guidance, and support to the SHEQ team across the region.


Responsibilities

  • Understanding and championing the company’s approach to managing SHEQ risk and delivering high-performance standards.
  • Maintaining a proactive and driven approach to supporting SHEQ across the organisation.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the closure/completion of:
    • Corrective actions, ensuring practical and effective implementation.
    • SHEQ assurance audits – organising, delivering, and supporting execution.
  • Conducting accident/incident investigations or supporting those led by the Head of SHEQ.
  • Integration with project teams to align with operational challenges.
  • Collaborating with clients to develop cohesive SHEQ strategies.
  • Exposure to the full lifecycle of project management, from initiation to delivery.
  • Identifying opportunities for sustainable solutions.
  • Analysing key performance data, including trends and reporting.
  • Maintaining externally certified management systems.
  • Optional confined space entry (training certificate required).
  • Regular overnight work due to geographical coverage.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold:

  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications.
  • A preference for experience within the sector (water / utilities).

Essential competencies include:

  • Ability to collect, analyse, and maintain large volumes of data while upholding integrity.
  • Proven experience of working as part of a SHEQ team and demonstrating solid collaboration skills.
  • Strong ability to:
    • Identify trends from data.
    • Communicate findings effectively and clearly.
    • Interpret legislation and Approved Codes of Practice.
  • Organisation and time management skills.
  • Capacity to:
    • Operate independently as well as as part of a team.
    • Communicate confidently across all organisational levels.
    • Make responsible decisions and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with proficiency in:
    • Visio,
    • Excel (advanced functionalities),
    • PowerPoint.
  • A flexible approach to work location and schedule.

  • Salary: Up to £55,000 (DOE).
  • Hybrids work depending on team requirements.
