Front-Line Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical) – Cheese & Whey Production

This hands-on engineering role involves maintaining critical installed assets across cheese and whey production at a state-of-the-art facility. You’ll work closely with the team leader, supporting both mechanical and electrical systems to ensure production efficiency. The role combines reactive problem-solving with proactive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
You’ll make a meaningful contribution by:

Preventative & reactive maintenance:
- Delivering maintenance schedules for machinery and instrumentation (pumps, motors, valves, agitators, etc.)
- Addressing emergency and urgent engineering issues to minimise production downtime

Collaborative problem-solving:
- Working with other engineering teams and production staff to plan and execute work efficiently
- Ensuring all work orders and repairs are recorded and tracked via the maintenance system

Site-wide support:
- Assisting other production areas to broaden operational knowledge
- Understanding production timescales and prioritising tasks accordingly

Driving continuous improvement:
- Identifying opportunities to optimise processes, reduce costs, and enhance safety
- Implementing value-added solutions to support site efficiency
Requirements & Suitability
To thrive in this role, you must be:
✅ Qualified & experienced:
- A time-served apprenticeship, NVQ (Level 3+), or HNC/HND in engineering (or equivalent)
- Proven multi-skilled mechanical and electrical engineering capabilities
✅ Practical & hands-on:
- Enjoys fieldwork, including indoor and outdoor duties within a food production environment (FMCG experience is preferred)
- Familiar with plant maintenance, troubleshooting, and mechanical/electrical repairs
✅ Team-oriented & adaptive:
- Works together with colleagues, supporting workloads and development as needed
- Comfortable using multiple computer systems for documentation and tracking
