Night Shift Engineer - Critical Facilities (Data Centre)

We are seeking an experienced Night Shift Engineer to join our in-house engineering team within a mission-critical data centre. Working permanent night shifts, you will be responsible for monitoring, operating and maintaining critical infrastructure while ensuring maximum uptime and responding effectively to any out-of-hours incidents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on critical electrical and mechanical systems during night operations.
  • Monitor BMS/EMS systems, responding promptly to alarms and plant abnormalities.
  • Perform fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Operate and maintain generators, UPS systems, switchgear, chillers, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps and associated HVAC equipment.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections, operational checks and compliance tasks throughout each shift.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and critical incidents, ensuring rapid restoration of services.
  • Complete maintenance records, incident reports and comprehensive shift handovers using CMMS.
  • Support permit-to-work procedures and ensure all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with site standards.
  • Escort and supervise specialist contractors undertaking planned overnight works.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety and operational readiness across the facility.

About You

  • Previous experience within a data centre, critical environment, facilities maintenance or similar mission-critical industry.
  • Strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance background.
  • Proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills in live operational environments.
  • Knowledge of critical infrastructure including UPS systems, standby generators, HVAC, chilled water systems and BMS.
  • Comfortable working independently while making informed engineering decisions during out-of-hours operations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to produce detailed technical reports and shift handovers.
  • Committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and operational excellence.
