# Shift Operations Technician (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) – 3 Shift Rotation

Shift Information

  • Days: Monday to Friday
  • Hours:
    • Production Shift 1: 5 AM – 1 PM
    • Production Shift 2: 1 PM – 9 PM
    • Production Shift 3: 9 PM – 5 AM
  • Shift Rotation: 3-shift system
  • Additional Pay for Overtime:
    • x1.5 for Monday–Saturday overtime
    • x2.0 for Sunday and bank holiday overtime

Job Summary

To provide Engineering Technical cover for all production and site support equipment, ensuring high levels of machine availability and reliability.


Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform fault finding and defect rectification on all production and site support equipment
  • Conduct maintenance in accordance with the Maintenance Management System and correct completion of faults
  • Modify, install or upgrade equipment as requested
  • Liasing with production teams to identify optimal windows for engineering tasks
  • Ensure strict compliance with:
    • Corporate guidelines
    • Safety regulations
    • Regulatory requirements (e.g., cGMP)
  • Maintain existing record of defect rectification, maintenance, and spares booking in the engineering system
  • Lead shift technicians, manage priorities, and promote collaboration
  • Complete all mandatory training for the role
  • Support Lean Sigma initiatives for continuous improvement
  • Inform Production Supervisors and Engineering Management of downtime and issues
  • Lead projects to achieve benchmarked improvements and business needs
  • Collaborate with the PPM Engineer for Predictive Preventative Maintenance (PPM)

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to company HSE policies and reporting of irregularities
  • Uphold safety protocols, internal codes of practice, and mandatory regulations to protect personnel
  • Promptly report Unsafe Occurrences, Near Misses, and Accidents per procedure
  • Maintain compliance with machine instruction use and equipment management
  • Full responsibility for safe operation of all equipment and tools

Quality Assurance Responsibilities

  • Act within role’s specific quality responsibilities aligned with the company’s quality policy
  • Strict adherence to cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) regulations

Additional Duties as Required

  • Assist with on-demand support tasks assigned by line management
  • Maintain legislative and functional compliance

Requirements

Education & Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or above) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering

Preferred knowledge:

  • BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations certification

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial equipment maintenance
  • Ability to diagnose and repair faults and defects in mechanical/electrical systems

Skills & Abilities (Preferred)

  • Strong Mechanical or Hydraulic Engineering knowledge
  • Experience in medical device industry or regulated environments
  • PLC/Robotics experience
  • CMMS system familiarity
  • Migration proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Job Essentials

Travel Requirements

  • Expected to travel up to 13 business days per year (max. 5% of allocated time)

Physical Demands

  • Medium-exerting duty:
    • Occasionally move objects up to 50 lbs (22 kg)
    • Frequently move objects up to 20 lbs (9 kg)
    • Constantly move objects up to 10 lbs (4.5 kg)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £46,000 (including shift premium of 15%)
  • Annual Bonus: Performance-linked bonus
