Shift Engineer

Shift Engineer – Electrical/Mechanical

Duration: August 2026 – January 2027 (Potential for Extension) Location: 8 Canada Square, Canary Wharf – London, UK Client: JLL Headcount: Multiple positions available


About the Role: Key Responsibilities

As a Shift Engineer – Electrical/Mechanical, you will play a critical role in maintaining and optimising building systems for operational excellence. Key tasks include:

  • Full compliance with Client contract requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Operational competence across all building systems, including HV operations where applicable.
  • Conducting plant inspections, works audits, and system audits to enhance efficiency.
  • Monitoring/build automation systems (BAS) for:
    • HVAC
    • Lighting
    • Security
    • Fire alarms
    • Energy management systems
  • Responding to system alerts and alarms, troubleshooting, or escalating faults as necessary.
  • Preventative maintenance of smart building technologies and equipment via routine inspections.
  • Technical support for IoT devices, sensors, and controllier networks, including connectivity issues.
  • Executing programming adjustments for building systems as directed.
  • Analysing and optimising energy usage patterns to apply efficiency protocols.
  • Digital documentation of maintenance activities, system adjustments, and incidents in management systems.
  • Coordinating vendor/contractor relationships for specialised repair work.
  • Managing occupant enquiries (comfort, system support) during assigned shifts.

Core Competencies

  • Proficient building integration knowledge with a focus on system dependencies.
  • Skilled in collaborative troubleshooting across electrical and mechanical functions.

Required Skills & Certifications

Technical Qualifications

  • HNC/HND in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical or equivalent)
  • IEE: Wiring and Installation Regulations (latest edition) or equivalent certification

Authorised Competencies

(Training available for those lacking these:)

- HV/LV Authorised Person **AP15** Refresh
- **Confined Area Authorised Person** Training

  • Mechanical Pressure Authorised Person (Attention: Renewal training provided)

Technical Proficiencies

  • HVAC, IoT systems, sensors and controllers training
  • Network connectivity and troubleshooting skills
  • Practical experience in BAS (building automation systems) configuration/programming

Essential Personal Attributes

  • Analytical problem-solving and structured documentation capability
  • Confidence with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)

Contract Information

  • Shift Pattern:
    • Day Shifts: 07:00 - 19:00
    • Night Shifts: 19:00 - 07:00
    • Weekly Cycle (Method Example):
      • Base: 4 days (day) → 6 days off
      • Next: 4 nights (shift) → 4 days off
      • Follow-up: 3 days → 3 nights → 4 off (Repeat structure applies.)

Notes on Training

Relevant certifications can be updated, including AP15, Confined/Mechanical Pressure refresher courses, based on eligibility.
