Shift Lead

Work Pattern

Week 1

  • Sunday: 07:00–15:00
  • Tuesday: 05:00–13:00
  • Wednesday: 05:00–13:00 (Note: Tuesday twice in error, replaced with Wednesday)
  • Friday: 12:00–20:00

Week 2

  • Monday: 05:00–13:00
  • Tuesday: 05:00–13:00
  • Thursday: 14:00–22:00
  • Friday: 12:00–20:00
  • Saturday: 12:00–20:00

Health & Safety Requirement: Must be 18 years or older to comply with workplace health and safety legislation.


Purpose of the Role

The Shift Lead will:

  • Lead the fill operation, ensuring the sales floor is operational and ready to trade
  • Take operational responsibility for coordinating resources to serve, sell, and fill in the absence of the Colleague Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating Resource Management:

    • Allocate staff effectively to deliver operational tasks during fill operations and take on additional responsibilities when Colleague Managers are unavailable
  • Operational and Team Leadership:

    • Lead, coach, and drive productivity during fill operations using the One Best Way
    • Ensure quick payments are processed efficiently
    • Implement operational processes correctly and on time across assigned store areas

  • Store Presentation & Safety:

    • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-presented store
    • Foster an inclusive, collaborative team atmosphere
  • Customer & Etiquette Representation:

    • Role model exceptional customer service
    • Uphold M&S behaviours and colleague expectations throughout the store
  • Support & Development:

    • Share observations of team performance to support Colleague Managers
    • Recognise and celebrate high-performing colleagues
    • Provide operational support to nearby stores if needed
  • Key Operational Duties:

    • Key holder and call-out response responsibility
    • Oversee opening & closing procedures, including:
      • Vehicle reception
      • Temperature control checks
      • Reporting operational issues to Helpdesks
      • Cash handling & TSL compliance during peripheral hours
