Shift Maintenance Assistant

Shift Maintenance Assistant + Equityans

Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), Smethwick


About the Role

Equans is seeking a Shift Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick, working 40.25 hours per week on a shift-based rota comprising:

  • 2 days on (7:00am–7:00pm)
  • 2 nights on (7:00pm–7:00am)
  • 4 days off

Salary: Up to £26,400 per annum (dependent on skills/experience), plus shift allowance and benefits package.


Key Responsibilities

The Shift Maintenance Assistant will deliver a proactive and reactive maintenance service, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and operational standards:

  • Respond to first-call reactive jobs, including:
    • Cleaning ventilation grilles and lighting fixtures
    • Unblocking toilets and drains
    • Managing BMS alerts during night shifts as the first point of contact
    • Recording and documenting issues, then handing them over to the Helpdesk for continuity
  • Complete meter readings and other routine maintenance tasks
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across site as per scheduled programmes

Requirements & Skills

To apply, you will need:

  • Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities management environment
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including:
    • Ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems
    • Domestic hot & cold-water systems
  • Preferred experience (but not mandatory): Healthcare facilities maintenance
  • Ability to pass a DBS Standard Check
  • Right to work legally in the UK
