Shift Maintenance Electrician – Permanent Role

Location: Prestigious central government building in Westminster Hours: 38.5 hours per week (day shifts only: 07:00 – 19:00) Pattern: 4 on, 4 off rolling rota


About the Role

Equans is seeking a Shift Maintenance Electrician to join our skilled maintenance team and support operations at a key government site in Westminster. This permanent shift-based role requires electrical expertise with an emphasis on reliability, compliance, and proactive building maintenance.

The role involves:

  • Maintaining all buildings and plant to set operational standards
  • Conducting a range of electrical and mechanical planned and reactive works
  • Ensuring prompt paperwork completion, including recommendations and maintenance requirements
  • Overseeing specialist sub-contractors and interfacing with cross-functional teams
  • Acting as a cover technician for other engineers across sites, including call-out duties
  • Adhering to statutory health and safety regulations and project deadlines

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out electrical servicing and fault diagnostics across buildings and plant
  • Overseeing and coordinating maintenance programmes for convincing and compliant operation
  • Offering technical advice for equipment upgrades and materials replacement
  • Maintaining rigorous standards in all tasks, from warranty inspections to general repairs
  • Supporting colleagues with call-out cover, contributing to the 24/7 operational availability
  • Promoting a highly professional and collaborative workplace culture

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Proven Level 3 qualification (theory + practical) in Electrical Engineering (e.g. apprenticeship or City & Guilds)
  • Evidence of 3+ years’ experience in building services/maintenance/facilities management (industry role)
  • Experience in day-shift environments, working reliably within industry-grade deadlines
  • Authorisation or readiness to obtain levels 1, 2, or 3 (AS/AP/CP) electrical competencies in relevant paired networks
  • The ability to commute to Westminster, with UK residency for 5+ years and a current, valid passport (due to security clearance requirements in the UK public sector)
  • Full right to work in the UK

Desirable Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 2391 (Testing and Inspection) and BS7671 compliance certification
  • Additional mechanical system experience (HVAC, gas, etc.)
  • Demonstrated driving proficiency for visiting multiple sites
