Our Grocery Service Centre, based near Liverpool, is a hub for transactional activity across multiple ABF companies within the ABF Grocery division. Supporting some of our well-known brands such as Kingsmill, Pataks, Blue Dragon, Jordans, Ryvita, and Silver Spoon, amongst others. We deliver Shared Service activities across a wide range of disciplines including Customer Services, Consumer Care, Finance, Payroll, HR, and IS.

Join Our Team!
We have an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Electrician to join our team in Liverpool. The role of a Maintenance Electrician is a varied and challenging one. You will be expected to identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives alongside proactive and reactive maintenance and repairs to the plant and site services associated with a major bakery.
Safety always comes first at Hovis Bakeries. We are looking for someone to lead by example by ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority and engage others to always think and behave safely.
The position is a shift role 4-on 4-off, 2-days 2-nights.
Key Accountabilities
- You will be responsible for maintaining plant and equipment; you will be expected to diagnose faults and install, repair, inspect, calibrate, and overhaul plant / machinery electrically as well as mechanically to maximise machine availability and ensure continuous improvements within the plant and facilities in compliance with Health and Safety, GMP, and best-proactive guidelines and procedures to ensure right first time processing of manufactured products.
- Carrying out engineering work efficiently and effectively, following Good Manufacturing Practice, Health & Safety Legislation, and company standards.
- Focusing on safe working practices and site performance KPI’s including OEE and CCOs.
- Diagnosing and correcting automation, electrical, and mechanical issues to resolve breakdown situations as qualified and authorised.
- Performing planned maintenance, modifications, installations, and upgrades to plant machinery and site services.
- Ensuring our engineering strategy is delivered consistently.
- Delivering turn-key improvement projects in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Driving the performance of the Engineering function forward.

The Right Person
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent trade accreditation.
- C&G 2382 BS 7671 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- A recognised time-served electrically biased apprenticeship in a relevant engineering (electrical) discipline.
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Engineering (desirable).
Experience
- Proven experience as an electrical/multi-skilled engineering craftsperson/technician.
- Practical experience in a Food or FMCG manufacturing engineering function.
- Strong problem-solving and fault diagnosis skills.
- Ability to maintain high standards and make sound decisions under pressure.
Skills & Knowledge
- Health & Safety requirements for engineering.
- Working knowledge of CMMS.
- Broad understanding of engineering disciplines.
- Strong decision-making skills and flexibility to work independently or in a team.
- PC literate and comfortable with technical documentation.
- Knowledge of Bakery Production, Maintenance Techniques, Continuous Improvement, PLC control systems, and automated machinery.
