Job Summary
The Shift Manager is responsible for leading and managing all timber frame manufacturing operations during the assigned shift. The role oversees the production of external walls, internal walls, and floor cassettes across two automated production lines while ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and operational efficiency targets are achieved. The Shift Manager provides leadership and support to five Team Leaders and their production teams to maintain a safe, organised, and high-performing manufacturing environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Manage daily timber frame manufacturing activities to ensure production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and on time.
- Oversee production of external walls, internal walls, and floor cassettes across two automated manufacturing lines.
- Coordinate workflow between production areas to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime.
- Lead and support five Team Leaders to ensure effective supervision of all production teams.
- Monitor production performance, downtime, waste, and labour efficiency.
- Ensure smooth shift handovers with clear communication of production issues, priorities, and performance.
- Coordinate labour, machinery, materials, and resources effectively.
- Respond quickly to operational problems and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all production processes comply with company procedures and customer requirements.

Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture across the shift.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Conduct incident investigations and support corrective/preventive actions.
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the production area.
Quality Management
- Ensure products meet required quality standards and customer specifications.
- Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor scrap, rework, and waste levels to support continuous improvement.
- Support audits and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
Team Leadership
- Directly manage and support five Team Leaders across the shift.
- Ensure Team Leaders are effectively managing staffing, performance, productivity, and safety standards within their areas.
- Lead, motivate, and develop production teams to achieve high performance.
- Manage attendance, performance, conduct, and disciplinary matters in line with company policy.
- Conduct team briefings and communicate operational priorities clearly.
- Support employee training, coaching, and development.
- Encourage teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive cost reduction and waste elimination activities.
- Work collaboratively with Logistic and Planning departments.
Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements
- Experience within timber frame manufacturing (beneficial), modular construction, or a fast-paced manufacturing environment desirable.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or production leadership role.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and KPIs.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.
- IT literate with experience using production systems and reporting tools.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience desirable.
- IOSH qualification desirable.
