Welcome to Iceland – Shift Manager (Retail Assistant with £2/Hour Supplement)


About the Role

You’ll support senior management in delivering outstanding results while driving sales growth, team development, and operational excellence. As a Shift Manager, you’ll start in a Retail Assistant role and earn a £2/hour supplement for every hour you manage the store, offering a fantastic opportunity for focused career growth.


Key Responsibilities

Maximise Profit

  • Ensure maximum shopper availability by fostering an environment where customers can effortlessly access what they need.
  • Drive sales through the "sell a £1 & save a £1" philosophy, balancing revenue and value for shoppers.
  • Execute all against goals agreed with your line manager, ensuring store performance targets are met.

Engage, Develop & Retain Great People

  • Actively partner with your Talking Shop Rep to gather and communicate staff feedback.
  • Champion team engagement to create a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone prospers.
  • Quantity time leading through visible knowledge-sharing, enabling colleagues to develop with hands-on support.

  • Action floor-walk observations on the back of daily reviews, focusing on visibility and shopper journey improvements.

  • Strict adherence to all cash handling, security, and One Best Way (OBW) guidelines.
  • Drive a seamless digital service experience by implementing processes that enhance efficiency and shopper satisfaction.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven retail management or supervisory experience—you bring clarity, proactive solutions, and inspire confidence.
  • Exceptional communication skills; clarity and professionalism matter when leading teams.
  • Skills in planning & organising shifts to assign tasks, manage workloads, and mitigate bottlenecks.
  • Balanced feedback—adjust resources to improve performance and tactical approach while maintaining team motivation.
  • Hands-on attitude; leading not just remotely but as a visible and active store leader to drive results on the floor.
