Job Description

IPS have an exciting new opportunity to join the team as a Shift Manager at our site in Bristol, responsible for the day shift (06:00-14:00). We are seeking a proactive and driven individual to manage production lines, ensuring planned volumes and commercial targets are consistently met. In this role, you will optimise revenue per hour while maintaining strict adherence to quality assurance and safety standards. Acting as a role model for best practice at all times, you will also support and guide Line Leaders, helping to drive performance and continuous improvement across the operation.

Key Responsibilities of a Shift Manager:

  • To effectively motivate and manage Line Leaders and teams of people to meet production targets
  • Agree a production plan within their area
  • Liaise with HR and On site Agency in staff management/requirements
  • Effectively use the integrated management system (Blue Logic/Vision)
  • Produce an SPI to Quality standard and ensure the final product meets client specifications (SPI)
  • Produce risk assessments
  • To effectively maximise production efficiency to ensure plan is met on a hourly/daily basis
  • Manage changeover of lines/product and sign off ready for production run
  • Ensure all trials and first offs are completely successfully within timescale given
  • To adhere to and promote best practice in accordance with company health, safety and quality regulations
  • Ensure all work orders are correct, (to include material/stock check available)
  • To ensure all paperwork and systems are completed and accurate in accordance with company procedures
  • To ensure that all areas comply with hygienic audits, both internal and external
  • To ensure GMP (good manufacturing practices) and housekeeping (clean as you go) are strictly adhered to
  • Train and identify training, assisting in the development of a skills matrix for all Line Leaders and Production workers
  • To conduct Line Leader meetings, attend daily production meetings and relevant training courses, as and when required
  • To assist in the identification and development of agency staff who demonstrate the potential to become IPS colleagues
  • To assist in the training and development of new starters
  • To act as a role model for best practice
  • Monitor, control and minimise waste (including staff required)
  • Play an active part in continuous improvement
  • To conduct RTWI’s for line workers
  • To conduct disciplinary investigations in accordance with company procedure
  • To act as specialist for machinery knowledge
  • Drive own personal development through training and work based experience
  • Open and close down site in accordance with company procedures – holder of key to building and alarm code
  • Manage the output of assigned production room and effectively deal with issues as and when they arise
  • Must be prepared to cover a variety of shifts to represent the management team, including opening and closedown site to cover all production hours
  • To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, that reasonably fall within the scope and grade of the post
  • Undertake / support Investigations related to H&S / Quality

Qualifications

Essential

  • H&S L2 Qualification
  • NVQ L2 in Team Leading or Packing Operations

Desirable

  • NVQ L3 – Team Leading
  • First Aid
  • Fire Marshall

Skills

  • Ability to communicate in a positive and clear manner
  • Fosters an open and collaborative culture

  • Able to positively lead a team of people (temporary labour)

  • Experience of manufacturing machinery and processes
  • Preferably food or packing experience
