Shift Process Integration Engineer (Chip R&D / NPI / Wafer Fab) – Lumentum

We’re passionate about what we do, committed to customer focus, and thrive on innovation. At Lumentum, we believe in bringing energy, diversity, and collaboration to drive growth—join a team full of over-achievers and take your career to new heights!

About the Role

Lumentum is seeking a junior Process Integration Engineer to join our Chip R&D team at our Caswell site (Northamptonshire, UK). In this on-site, shift-based position (4 days on, 4 days off), you will support the developing and scaling of wafer fabrication processes for indium phosphide (InP)-based optical components.

The Chip R&D team focuses on **. . .

† Designing and producing advanced photonic devices:

  • Lasers
  • Modulators
  • Receivers
  • Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) . . informed by cutting-edge cloud and networking applications.

As a Process Integration Engineer, you’ll:

  • Bridge the gap between device design and manufacturability (turning complex specs into high-performing chips).
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (engineers, manufacturing, and operations) to solve critical technical challenges with commercial impact.

Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Integration

  • Work across wafer fabrication to integrate and optimize processes for new InP photonic products, including coherent/direct detection components.
  • Refine processes to boost yield, reduce costs, and accelerate time-to-market.
  • Develop and document process flows within the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

Analytical & Problem-Solving Roles

  • Monitor product and wafer performance throughout the development lifecycle, using SEM and other analytical tools to troubleshoot inefficiencies.
  • Introduce new process modules, ensuring scalability to suit high-volume manufacturing demand.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
