Shift Process Operator

Location: Westbury

Salary: £30,657.46 per annum + 10% shift allowance (40-hour weeks, full-time & permanent)

About the Role

Join Hills Waste Solutions at one of the largest family-owned waste companies in the UK—supporting waste recycling, quarring, and construction across Wiltshire and the surrounding counties.

As our Shift Process Operator, you’ll take full ownership of the Mechanical and Biological Treatment (MBT) process, ensuring smooth operation, safety standards, and compliance from the control room.


Key Responsibilities

As a permanent member of our team, you’ll:

  • Monitor & operate MBT processes, maintaining optimal performance and compliance with all site regulations.
  • Maintain accurate operational records—updating logs to reflect real-time data, deliveries, and dispatches.
  • Oversee waste reception & dispatch—operating weighbridges and ensuring compliance with planning and permits.
  • Support preventative maintenance on fixed and mobile plant to maximise reliability.
  • Lead operations in the shift supervisor’s absence, providing clear guidance and maintaining site safety.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-skilled teams to ensure all processes run efficiently and safely.

Standard Weekly Hours: 🌀 8.5-hour shifts, Monday–Friday (plus alternate Saturday mornings)

Shift Patterns:

  • Shift 1 – Mon–Fri: 06:00–14:30 + Sat: 06:00–12:00
  • Shift 2 – Mon–Fri: 13:30–22:00

Requirements

Essential:

✅ Experience in a process plant environment. ✅ Strong computer literacy (data recording, system management). ✅ Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) awareness—commitment to high standards. ✅ Excellent communication skills—ability to liaise across levels of the organisation. ✅ Leadership capability—able to take ownership of site operations and guide teams.

Desirable:

🔹 Experience in people management (shift leadership). 🔹 NEBOSH qualification (Health & Safety). 🔹 Operational licences (Telehandler/Forklift)—certifications a plus.
