Shift Supervisor – Warehouse/Distribution
Location: Thrapston, Northamptonshire Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum + Company Benefits + Training & Development
About the Role
Do you have a strong background in shipping and distribution, with expertise in leading shift teams and driving operational efficiency? We’re seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor to join our thriving distribution centre in Thrapston.
This role offers a sustained position where you’ll take ownership of daily warehouse operations, supervising teams across inbound, outbound, returns, QA/QC, and shipping administration—all while fostering safety, performance improvement, and productivity standards.
Full-time, permanent position Shift: Monday to Friday (06:30 – 14:30)
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee daily warehouse operations, including receipt, putaway, despatch, returns, quality inspection (QA/QC), and shipping administration
- Supervise staff, equipment, and operational zones to ensure seamless workflow
- Ensure safe opening and closing of the distribution centre when required
- Maintain operational accuracy, productivity, and KPI performance
- Allocate labour effectively based on daily shift plans
- Monitor logistics operations, escalate risks or delays, and ensure unresolved issues are quickly addressed
- Support warehouse systems and tools, ensuring correct use
- Manage site security, access control, and visitor/driver security protocols

Shift Contracts & Communications
- Conduct smooth shift handovers and maintain cross-shift communication
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve stock, service, and system-related issues
Health & Safety Leadership
- Enforce full compliance with company health and safety policies and legislation
- Conduct safety inspections, address hazards, and ensure proper use of PPE
- Support risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety training completion
- Investigate incidents and work on corrective measures
** Ideal Candidate Requirements**
_The ideal Shift Supervisor will have:**
✔ Proven experience supervising teams in a warehouse or distribution environment ✔ Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to guide staff effectively ✔ Excellent communication and organisational skills to coordinate complex operations ✔ Problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure ✔ Strong commercial awareness, ensuring efficient labour management and productivity ✔ High health & safety knowledge, particularly in logistics environments ✔ Trustworthiness and flexibility, especially during peak periods or urgent shifts
