Technical Float - Black Shift ⚫

4on 4off - days and nights.

  • 2 Days 🌞 - 7am to 7pm
  • 2 Nights 🌛 - 7pm to 7am

14 days of every 5 shift rotations (holiday allowance included in shift pattern)📅 Plus 6 “rota days” per year.

Main Purpose of the Position

To work as part of a shift team in the manufacturing area. To safely run and maintain manufacturing equipment ensure the smooth and continuous running of the production line in order to meet the plant KPI requirements with a product that meets the defined quality criteria.

The technical float will be required to assist in all areas of the plant, their normal duties are carried out under the instruction of the Shift Manager/Process Leader in their work area where they are required (this may change on a shift to shift basis)

The technical float also works with a dotted line to the engineering department- ensuring planned maintenance activities are continued across a 24/7 basis and that PMR work is prioritised on shift. The expectation is a 50:50 split between supporting production directly and working on worklists from engineering Maintenance Leader through FiiX system and verbal/email communications

The Technical Float reports directly to the Shift Manager. The main duties depend upon the area in which the maintainer works i.e.

  • Front end Fork truck / Baler
  • Cupper / Bodymaker / Trimmer
  • Washer / Waste treatment
  • Coater / Decorator
  • Inside Spray / Necker /Middle QC
  • Palletiser / Depalletiser
  • Finished pallet inspection / Testing.
  • Warehouse / Back End Fork lift truck

Key responsibilities of the role include❗

  • Able to Maintain and Operate in all areas of the factory
  • Provide continuity from days engineering into shift - ensuring planned works are supported and continued into nights and weekends as appropriate
  • Feedback to Maintenance Leader on worklist completion
  • Work on safety card and improvement idea close out as allocated from Maintenance Leader
  • Completion of work orders on Fiix and feedback on improvements or follow up works
  • To operate can manufacturing equipment in order to achieve plant KPI targets as per requirement of the given shift
  • To maintain the equipment within their area of responsibility in such a condition that quality standards are maintained and downtime is minimized.
  • To carry out the required quality checks within their area of responsibility and to take the necessary corrective actions and report any non-conformities to the Team Leader and the relevant department.
  • To maximise production and minimise spoilage during the manufacturing process.
  • To carry out the necessary safe repairs to equipment as and when required.
  • To carry out the set up checks that may follow maintenance work.
  • To report potential problems to the Shift Manager or relevant Department Heads.
  • To maintain the housekeeping to an exemplary standard and in a safe condition throughout the plant.
  • To maintain safe working practices and comply with any legal environmental and safety requirements and/or checks.
  • On maintenance days, carry out the repairs, preventive maintenance, etc. as directed by the Engineering Department.
  • Use of ancillary equipment i.e. fork trucks (following relevant official training) to perform production line or other duties
  • To promote quality improvement and preventative actions by involvement in continuous improvement activities to meet the KPI objectives
  • Ensure that proper and safe systems of working and means of avoiding dangerous, or potentially hazardous conditions, are adopted.
  • Performs clean-up, painting, and housekeeping duties as and when required or instructed.
  • Cleaning service facilities after use, i.e. canteen, washroom etc.
  • Reworking HFI pallets, and re-sampling of HFI pallets
  • To maintain the quality standards as required by the company.
  • To maintain the production requirements of the Plant and minimise spoilage.
  • To have good communications with management and fellow workers, reporting quality defects, unsafe conditions, manufacturing difficulties, ideas for improvements, etc.
  • To work safely at all times and to report unsafe acts or conditions to their supervisor immediately.
  • To co-operate with relevant environmental, health & Safety legislation and the companies’ environmental, health & Safety management systems and standards

Professional Requirements

Qualifications📖

  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent including Maths and English
  • Recognised Time Served Apprenticeship
  • ONC / HNC Qualification or equivalent

Experience/Attributes 🤩

  • Apprenticeship in a Manufacturing Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety work practises.
  • Experience of preventative and planned maintenance on production equipment.
  • Have experience of working on production machinery
  • Experience of repairing spare parts for production machinery
  • The ability and willingness to assist with breakdowns and line conversions.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to work precisely with strong attention to detail.
  • A team player with strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work alone under their own initiative.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and organise and prioritise their work load.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and thoroughly.
  • A basic knowledge of quality and hygiene systems would be advantageous.
  • Possess an enthusiastic and proactive, goal orientated approach
