Shape the Future of Submarine Operations
Ready to take your career in a new direction? At Babcock, we value the deep expertise that comes from hands-on experience—and we offer a unique opportunity to channel that knowledge into a rewarding new path. In this training role, you’ll use your submarine Ship Control background to deliver high-quality instruction, maintain and update Astute Class Ship Control courseware, and support learners as they develop the skills needed to operate confidently within a modern submarine control environment. You’ll assess trainee progress through written and practical evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and help guide their development through coaching, mentoring, and targeted interventions. If you’re looking to make a meaningful impact while expanding your own skills in a professional training environment, this could be the ideal next step.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
- Delivering Astute-class ship control training in a specialised facility
- Reviewing and evaluating technical data and change notifications
- Ensuring training meets prescribed standards, quality, and cost targets
- Supporting students with varying levels of experience
- Liaising with training design teams to provide subject matter expertise.
The role is based onsite at HMNB Clyde. We welcome applications from candidates seeking either full-time or part-time hours.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
