Vortec Marine Ltd, founded in 2006 is a specialist provider of yacht refit, repair, maintenance, and management services for prestige sailing yachts.
Based in Portsmouth, Vortec Marine runs a dedicated service centre with workshop and lift-out facilities for yachts up to 40 metres and 180 tonnes. The business combines high-quality technical expertise with a bespoke online portal that allows clients to store and access maintenance records, similar to a prestige car service log. Team members join a trusted, highly regarded marine services provider working with premium sailing yacht brands.
Role Description
The Shipwright role at Vortec Marine Ltd is a full-time, on-site position based in Gosport. The Shipwright will carry out a wide range of yacht refit and repair tasks, including structural work, interior fit-out, and exterior joinery for prestige sailing yachts. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The role involves working from technical drawings and specifications, using hand and power tools safely, and maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and finish. The Shipwright will also contribute to routine maintenance projects, support lift-out and yard operations as required, and uphold health and safety practices in the workshop and yard.
Qualifications
- Strong practical skills in boat building and structural repair for sailing yachts.
- Experience working with boats in the marine industry, ideally including prestige or performance vessels.
- Knowledge of yachting practices and yacht systems, with the ability to work confidently on deck, hull, and interior areas.
- Competence in laminating, composite repairs, and related fabrication techniques.
- Relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship in boat building, shipwright work, or marine engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Attention to detail, pride in workmanship, and commitment to safety procedures in a yard and workshop environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
