Role Description
This full-time, on-site Shipwright role is based at the UK Docks Marine Services facility in Gosport. The Shipwright will carry out boat building, repair, and maintenance tasks on a variety of vessels, including commercial craft and yachts. Day-to-day responsibilities include structural repairs, fitting and refurbishing hulls and interiors, laminating and composite work, and assisting with vessel conversions as required. The role involves reading and interpreting technical drawings, using appropriate tools and materials, and working closely with engineers and other marine professionals to ensure high-quality results. The Shipwright is expected to follow all health and safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and contribute to efficient project completion.

Qualifications

- Strong practical skills in boat building and repair, with experience working on a range of vessel types.
- Knowledge of the marine industry, including working practices in boatyards, dry docks, and afloat repair environments.
- Experience with yachting-related maintenance and refit work, including interior and exterior vessel finishes.
- Competence in laminating and composite fabrication or repair, using appropriate materials and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, and work accurately to measurements.
- Good manual handling skills, familiarity with hand and power tools, and a strong focus on safety.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineers and other trades.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in boat building, shipwright work, or marine engineering is desirable.
- Previous experience in a shipyard, marine services, or similar industrial environment is an advantage.
