Shunter
Our DS Smith site in Fordham is seeking a Shunter to join us in delivering upon our distribution strategy to achieve service excellence. The focus is to deliver world-class service in a fast paced environment to delight our customers, grow our business and contribute towards achieving and exceeding Fordham’s goals and targets.
What aspects are involved in this role?
The role entails being able to provide reliable movement of trailers on site to enable loading & un-loading for all site processes and the associated securing & un-securing of the relevant loads.
Prior preparation of all curtain-sided trailers to be loaded, including visual inspection of the trailer, sweeping the trailer-bed floor, ensuring all restraint systems are fit for purpose, are correctly positioned & secured. Compliance with all operating procedures and safe systems of working. Ensure trailers are correctly prepared to facilitate loading of the product to the trailer (straps positioned, curtains correctly positioned) Competent securing of loads prior to moving trailers from loading point to trailer park. Compliance with all operating procedures and safe systems of working. Preparation of trailer prior to offloading, removal and correct stowage of restraint systems and curtains. Ensure trailers are correctly secured after un-loading is complete. Support customer on-time targets through effective management of trailer supply to the loading bays to ensure loads depart on time.

What We Would Like Our Candidate To Have…

Familiarisation with operating LGV equipment within the workplace and can clearly demonstrate understanding on the importance of compliance with safety rules & regulations. Problem-Solving. Ability to work under pressure, assess and prioritise work schedules in an ever-changing working environment. Ability to prioritise & manage own workload Team Player. Previous experience of working as part of a team with understanding of the importance on how this supports the wider team goals. Is both self-motivated and a motivator for other people
