Signaller

Requisition ID: 11751

We’re pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for two Permanent Signaller’s to join our dynamic AIW/IM team in Taffs Well.

This is a 35-hour-per-week role, working 12-hour shifts across three days on a rota basis. The role supports 24/7 operations, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

In this role, you will manage the signalling workstation on a shift basis, ensuring all operating standards and procedures are followed. You will also support the safe and efficient operation of train services, helping to deliver high standards of safety and performance.

This role offers a unique opportunity to support the South Wales Metro project, helping deliver the Welsh Government’s ambitions for new services across the Core Valley Lines. This includes new rolling stock and an increased timetable, providing more services for the public.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage the safe and efficient operation of signalling equipment under your control.
  • Follow the Rule Book, procedures, instructions and train regulation policies to ensure trains are signalled and regulated correctly.
  • Provide rail colleagues, customers and contractors with relevant operating and train service updates to support strong train performance.
  • Ensure the correct procedures are followed before, during and after engineering work to support safe train operations and effective protection arrangements.
  • Keep accurate records of incidents and unusual occurrences and provide written reports or attend investigatory interviews when required.
  • Arrange short notice cover for sickness, absence or other gaps when clerical support is unavailable, ensuring compliance with AIW guidelines.
  • Respond to incidents, follow emergency procedures and alert the appropriate agencies. Direct designated staff during exceptional situations to support safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained.
  • Take part in the Signaller assessment process, provide evidence for achievement record workbooks, complete relevant sections and take action as required.
  • Maintain security within the Signalling Centre.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
