Employment Law Consultant (Six-Month Assignment) – Simmons Adaptive

Main Purpose of the Role

Simmons Adaptive seeks qualified employment law specialists to support a leading financial services client. This six-month assignment (expected start: August 2026, flexible start date) will involve:

  • Handling contentious and non-contentious employment law matters across EMEA.
  • Providing exposure to financial services, cross-border work, and regulatory frameworks for major financial institutions.
  • Offering employment law advice to Human Resources, Employee Relations, Legal, and business stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with external employment counsel across EMEA and internal colleagues to manage relationships and cases.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Support & Advisory

  • Provide employment law advice to HR teams, working with external counsel where necessary.
  • Manage employment litigation across EMEA:
    • Instruct external counsel
    • Supervise disclosure and witness preparation
    • Review draft documents and strategy for internal stakeholders

HR & Employee Relations

  • Support HR in grievances, disciplinaries, redundancies, and appeals.
  • Advise on recruitment, contracts, termination agreements, restrictive covenants, and inclusive workforce matters.
  • Manage employee data protection and regulatory compliance issues.

Transaction & Advisory Work

  • Advise on outsourcing, TUPE transfers, and share acquisitions across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Investigate fact-based employment and conduct issues.
  • Update internal policies to reflect legal developments and firm initiatives.

Regulatory Cooperation

  • Assist with regulatory inquiries related to conduct and remuneration.
  • Provide guidance on financial services regulatory frameworks (knowledge of this sector is desirable but not essential).

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

  • Fully qualified lawyer with a law degree.
  • At least four years’ practical employment law experience, preferably in law firms or in-house legal teams.
  • Expertise in:
    • Discrimination, whistleblowing, and grievance procedures.
    • Disciplinaries, contract variations, and redundancies.
    • TUPE transfers and organisational restructures.
  • Proven experience in drafting and negotiating settlement agreements.
  • Strong exposure to employment litigation.

Skills & Attributes

  • Exceptional relationship management with HR, stakeholder dialogue, and legal collaboration.
  • Ability to take ownership of complex matters, deliver under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Financial services knowledge (desirable) or in-house experience (preferred but not mandatory).
