We have a fantastic opportunity for an exceptionally talented Simulator Control Systems Engineer to join our Controls and Systems Group at Enstone. This is a valuable opportunity for a technically capable and highly motivated engineer, it will combine advanced engineering expertise with practical trackside performance support to play a crucial role in helping us push for podiums and race wins.

The Role Of Our Simulator Control Systems Engineer

A challenging and exciting role in which you will be responsible for setting up, monitoring and optimising the chassis control systems for the driver-in-the-loop (DIL) simulator.

Your Challenge

Primarily working closely with the Simulator Section Leader, you will develop events and race event support, as well as improving and developing Simulator control systems. Simulator support is the primary focus but there will also be tasks relating to the car Controls Group.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • To ensure reliable and performant operation of the on-car chassis control systems in the DIL Simulator.
  • To prepare SECU software release packages for Simulator events.
  • To provide guidance to race engineers and drivers on control system behaviour and procedural requirements.
  • Maintain very close familiarity with on-car standard ECU software and hardware, team software and DIL systems.
  • Assist the Simulator Group in developing Simulator systems, procedures, software and tools as well as dSPACE hardware in the loop.
  • To bridge the gap between DIL control systems and car control systems, catalogue and maintain documentation on the differences between DIL and car control system configuration and usage.
  • To liaise with colleagues across the engineering functions on relevant topics, providing analytical and objective feedback on developments and faults.
  • To contribute to the Control Systems Group on other rigs, dynos, tests and car related tasks as required.

Who We Want

We are looking to strengthen our talented team with an experienced and motivated individual who has a minimum of three years' professional experience in a high-performance trackside environment. You should be educated to degree level in Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, with a strong understanding of real-time control systems, mechatronics, hydraulic systems, and data analysis.

Professional experience programming in MATLAB and Simulink is essential. You should also demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of on-car hydraulic and electrical systems, current Formula One transmission technology, failure modes, and fault diagnosis techniques. A practical understanding of sampled data systems, signal processing, and data analysis methodologies is also required.

We are seeking someone with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, who adopts a methodical, organised, and detail-oriented approach to their work. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, is essential, as well as the ability to perform effectively in a demanding and fast-paced trackside environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours to accommodate international race schedules and varying time zones.
  • A commitment to achieving both individual and team objectives through a flexible and adaptable approach to work.

The Following Skills And Experience Would Be Advantageous

  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics fundamentals.
  • Experience using McLaren Applied off-car tools.
  • Experience programming in Python and/or C#.
