Job Opportunity: P8 Training Engineering Technician – Simulator Technician

Location: RAF Lossiemouth (Onsite) Employment Type: Full-Time, Shift Basis

The P8 Training Services team at RAF Lossiemouth delivers state-of-the-art synthetic training for the MOD’s P-8 fleet using cutting-edge simulation technology.


P8 Training Engineering

This role supports training device maintenance—ensuring proactive preservation, uptime, and continuous improvement of simulation systems used by UK military personnel.


Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Maintenance & Support
    • Assist in repairs, testing, installation, configuration, and upgrades of simulators, training devices, and associated hardware/software.
    • Perform pre/operational and component inspections to ensure device integrity.
    • Conduct functional tests, monitor instrumentation, and troubleshoot faults across systems.

  • Fault Rectification

    • Isolate and repair faulty systems and components under limited supervision.
    • Oversee maintenance activities as tasked by Shift Lead or Engineering Manager.
  • Process Improvement

    • Develop and refine existing maintenance protocols to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • Strong organisational and technical skills.
  • Experience with electronic/electrical systems (preferably advanced).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with flight simulators or training equipment (strong preference).
  • A time-served indentured apprenticeship in:
    • Simulator/Avionics/Electronics/Engineering
  • NVQ Level 3 (Electrical/Electronics/Avionics) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of computer networking.
  • Experience with qualification test guides (QTGs) and related certification processes.
  • Familiarity with military air environment governance.
  • An HNC/D in Electronics/Avionics/Aircraft Engineering.
