About the Role

The Planned Care Unit (PCU) is a nurse-led day case service that delivers planned infusion therapies, transfusion care, and diagnostic investigations for stable adult patients. Services include:

  • IV iron treatments
  • Biologic therapy administration
  • Blood transfusions
  • Specialist diagnostic tests

Care is provided within a supportive, patient-centred environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient assessments, set up IV access, deliver infusions, and monitor patients throughout treatments
  • Follow Trust policies and PCU standard operating procedures
  • Collaborate closely with pharmacy and referring clinical teams to ensure safe, timely patient care
  • Escalate concerns promptly when necessary
  • Develop specialist infusion skills and enhance clinical assessment expertise

The successful candidate will:

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver high-standard, evidence-based clinical nursing care
  • Provide comprehensive care from admission to safe discharge, including resuscitation and stabilisation when required
  • Use clinical judgement to assess patients, interpret observations, and promptly escalate concerns
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, relatives, and the MDT
  • Support quality patient experiences and ensure timely information exchange
