About the Role

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based nursing care, working collaboratively and cooperatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

The role involves:

  • Assisting in the management and organisation of their clinical area
  • Participating in the education, development, and supervision of other staff members

Main Duties & Responsibilities

All applicants must:

  • Be a Registered Nurse (RNM) with recent Band 5 experience
  • Meet the Band 6 Job Description person specification requirements
  • Have experience in trauma and orthopaedics, as well as surgical nursing

Core Responsibilities

  • Will act as a Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse at Mason Ward (Internal Rotation) in Surgical Ward with Trauma and Orthopaedics speciality
  • Provide mentorship of student nurses
  • Offer preceptorship to newly qualified nurses
  • Assist the ward sister in effectively managing Mason Ward
  • Ensure Fundamentals of Care are maintained to a high standard

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registration (current)
  • Degree-level qualification (or credible progress in gaining one with an agreed timeframe)
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements or successful pursuit of a relevant Postgraduate Diploma (within an agreed timeframe)

Desirable

  • Management qualification or experience
  • Experience as a Mentor / Supervisor / Assessor

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Substantial experience in clinical speciality or a relevant nursing role
  • Ability to demonstrate application of improvement methodologies

Desirable

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary team settings
  • Knowledge/understanding of senior-level nursing roles

Aptitudes & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to communicate and receive complex information
  • Problem-solving skills (diagnosing issues and taking corrective action)
