Site Agent
Site Agent – Cheshire West & Chester

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Site Agent to join our Cheshire West & Chester business unit, based in Chester and Winsford (CH3 7EX). Reporting to the Operations Manager, your role will involve managing highway civil engineering and surfacing projects from start to finish, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing operational activities on site
- Managing resources, subcontractors, and financial performance
- Maintaining robust client and stakeholder relationships
- Championing health, safety, and environmental compliance
As a leader, you will promote operational excellence, continuous improvement, and a flexible, collaborative team culture.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead site operations – Ensure all works adhere to company policies, client requirements, and industry best practices.
- Drive safety and compliance – Champion a culture of health and safety, including CDM regulations, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Optimal resource management – Coordinate labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors to optimise efficiency and programme adherence.
- Budget and commercial oversight – Monitor project costs, identify variations, and ensure budgetary control while maximising profitability.
- Client engagement – Maintain strong relationships through communication, site visits, and regular reporting for client satisfaction.
- Administrative Excellence – Keep accurate site records, produce forecasts, and support project planning activities (e.g., Microsoft Project tools).
- Team leadership – Inspire training development, collaboration, and a proactive work ethic among site personnel.
- Uphold standards – Align with Colas policies, ethical values, and operational excellence principles.

Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a highly skilled, results-driven professional with the following qualifications and experience:
Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years in highway construction, maintenance, or civil engineering, preferably in a Site Agent/director-level role.
- Full UK driving licence
- ONC, HNC, or HND in Construction/Civil Engineering preferred
- Contractual & commercial awareness – Proven track record in budget management and project delivery excellence.
- Health & Safety expertise – Strong knowledge of CDM regulations, risk assessments, and legal requirements.
- Certifications:
- Valid CSCS card
- SMSTS or IOSH certification
- Project planning skills – Experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent tools; familiarity with industry specifications advantageous.
